About
My name is Jonathan Whiting, and I work with a mental health therapy group called V.I.P. Counseling. I grew up in the Coeur d’ Alene area and have a heart to see the people of this city and of north Idaho flourish. I completed college and graduate school studying psychology in Kirkland, Washington at Northwest University. My doctorate is in counseling psychology, and I have been working as a licensed psychologist since 2020. I have a wife and a young daughter, and a beagle named Oliver. During my free time I enjoy fly fishing the beautiful rivers of north Idaho and spending time in the mountains.

My hope for people
I provide psychotherapy services to individuals and couples. The root word in "psychology" is derived from the Greek word for "soul," and thus psychology can be translated as "the study of the soul." As a Christian, my motivation to work as a therapist stems from my belief that human beings possess a soul, are intrinsically valuable, loved by God, and created in his image, and that when we live in truth and love we can experience a fulfilling life. I work with people to help them find meaning in their lives, heal past traumas, learn to manage difficult emotions in effective ways, and develop a vision for their life. I use a variety of therapies and integrate them to best meet the needs of each individual.

What is therapy like?
Your first session is free. This gives you chance to discuss the issues you'd like to address in therapy and for us to come up with a plan to effectively help you meet your goals. Therapy generally involves discussing the thoughts and feelings you have related to the issues you'd like to address, as well as examining behaviors that you might like to change, remove from, or instill in your life to enhance your well-being.
